How to Expand Your Post Military Career Transition Opportunities

There are many retired military personnel who have various questions when it comes to career transition. Many are baffled at the term ‘career transition’, which simply means changing jobs. Majority of military personnel are willing to pursue a post military career, however, they are unaware about the ways to do it. Simply telling your friends or relatives to look out for a job will certainly not help. You have to go beyond it and use other means to expand your post military career transition opportunities.

Before you widen your job search, it is important for you to know the type of field and organization you would want to work for. You can take a look at what’s happening in the job market, what is more in demand and what helps you earn more money with the flexibility. Once you are sure about where you want to serve, you can begin with your search. Also there are some organizations that prefer to hire people with a military background. Police force, fire brigade, security services and government jobs normally do have a vacancy for military retired people.

Remember every job has its own culture. Make sure you will be able to adapt to it before you start searching. Once you learn about all these things, you need to prepare an interesting and eye catching resume. The resume represents you and can speak volumes about you, so put all your efforts in to it. Check for the latest pattern followed in drafting resumes. If you are applying for federal jobs, they will have their own format, so make sure you follow them.

Upload your resumes on popular and commonly used job portals. Give an interesting title for your resume and use keywords so that entrepreneurs can view it with ease. You can also go through websites of some well-known organizations and forward your resume to their HR team. Placement agencies are other good ways of widening your search for jobs. Let the HR executive know what kind of job you are looking for and they will help you find one.

Look out for jobs fair and seminars where you can walk in with your resume only to meet your prospective employer. Network with people and let them know that you are looking for a transition. If your friends or relatives are working somewhere ask them to let you know about any vacancy they might learn of. Go through the newspaper daily. Read the classified with patience and you might find something right for you.

Be in constant touch with your placement agencies so that you do not miss out on any golden opportunity. Give them a call regularly and ask them about any new vacancies. Also you need to keep visiting your job portal regularly and apply for jobs. Many employers inform the candidates about the first round of interview through mails. Thus make it a point to check your mails daily so you do not miss out on the interview date.

These are a few of the best possible ways to expand your search for post-military jobs. Be patient and do not lose hope, there are several organizations longing for a military retired person. Relax and keep your search on till you find the best profile.

The 10 Coolest Information Security Careers

Every time someone asks me about my profession, people’s reaction is often the same: -Wow! So you’re like those hackers I see in the (Hollywood) movies! That’s really cool! Listen, can you discover someone’s password for me?

After an hour long monologue telling them the difference between hackers and crackers, the unethical implications of discovering someone else’s password, the basics of networking functionality and so on, people are still amazed by the knowledge the profession requires and the coolness of “attacking” websites and investigating a computer crime. I guess it’s a reflex of that famous TV series…

But either we like it or not, Information Security careers hold a certain glamour and ignite people’s imagination. Thus, I’ve decided to research a bit further, and write down what each job is about so the next time I’m asked, I’ll just refer people to this page.

Opportunities in the Police

Many of us have considered joining the services at some stage in our lives whether its the medical, fire fighting or a law enforcing one. The thrill of pressure and making such a huge difference can be a hugely appealing for many of us who would seek to make the most of the time we can spend in work. There are many opportunities in the police force for job satisfaction or even career advancement for those with ambitions.

There are unfortunately many people who would love to work for the police and many of these are unable to as they do not meet the very specific requirements needed if they are to succeed with their application. With so many different duties that police officers are expected to fulfil, these requirements are not just a chance to be picky or turn down applicants.

Once you have fulfilled the application criteria and have undergone the police training, which is incredibly comprehensive, you will be handed your badge, baton and hat and then you will be able to benefit from many of the advantages associated with becoming a police officer.

The job is very well paid and you also can boast of job security. There is also financial security as well as the pay increase each year that is set out in a chart, known as the police pay scales. Having your salary for the years to come set out is a really positive way of seeing things and this offers great stability and security. It’s also something to look forward to at the end of each year spent in the force and can be quite an advantage when it comes to getting a mortgage.

Oh, did I say mortgage? I think I did and there must have been a reason for it. Police officers count as key workers and are therefore eligible for a subsidised mortgage scheme. It’s needless to say in such a time of economic uncertainty that this is a huge bonus indeed and could make a huge difference, especially with younger officers who may have families and are looking to get on the property ladder.

There is also the job satisfaction that comes with serving as a member of the police force. Of course, police officers are all very well trained and professional but they are still challenged and this can be hugely stimulating. There is also a great chance to integrate incredibly well into the local community and to meet a whole host of interesting and new people. For those that like to take on responsibility and make a real difference, the police force could provide many opportunities.

The police force has to be one of the most incredible organisations for which to work on the planet. The sheer level of diversity and challenging situations that police officers may encounter gives the job a really interesting side and there is never a dull moment. If you would rather not sit in an office all day then perhaps a career as interesting and as varied as the police force may be right for you. There may be some opportunities in the police for you.

To join the police you will need to pass a tough recruitment process including a police application form, police tests, and a police interview. For help and guidances on the recruitment process click here: police recruitment uk

Do you find the politicization of DHS a bit scary?

When it was first created as a response to 9-11, I thought the Department of Homeland Security seemed like a good idea. However it seems that rather than truly playing a rule in homeland security it has become a tool for identifying “enemies” of the current administration and those policies of a particular political persuasion. Janet Napolitano is nothing more than a political hack and not a particularly knowledgeable one at that. If this job weren’t political she couldn’t get hired as a janitor with the department based on her credentials.

In no more than two months on the job Napolitano and her staff compiled their brilliant list of threats to the nation. Containing such dangerous fanatics as activists concerned about world government, protecting second amendment rights, unfair taxation, pro lifers, even those displaying the Gadsden (Don’t tread on me) flag and “disgruntled” veterans.

This is all eerily reminiscent of Hitlers SS which quickly identified then jailed or murdered any opposition to Nazi policies. In this respect DHS is the one who seems the real threat to America.

We already have an F.B.I. which is a group of skilled professionals who have done a fantastic job over the years of law enforcement and investigation. Do we really need DHS?

A work scheduling quandry…?
My job has planned me for Thursday, and I have a choir concert that night. I did not know of my production and involvement in this until last week, and my post does not allow requests off unless given two week notices. I hold tried to call my co-workers (to no success) and have tried to telephone my job, they told me to “stop calling” (I called twice contained by three days) and I was embarrassed and upset. This is not the first time my career has been rude to me, surrounded by fact, it’s a weekly practice. They consistently ignore my requests stale (which are far and few between) and my manager is a lecher and punches us when he feels resembling it. His temper is to be reckoned near and he shouts at us, often in front of customers. To them, I’m a short time ago another 8.75/hour, but I need this money for college and for my car. What can I do? I own to go to this concert, or risk my involvement in the choir program, or lose my position. With college applications and many loose ties to wrap up before senior year is over, I haven’t the time nor the restraint to get a new chore. My options, so far, are as this. 1. Call out sick in the morning. They might find my arts school schedule or call my academy, so this is a bad idea. 2. Call the remaining co-worker, but even if she agrees, my organizer might be feeling fickle and decide, on a notion, that he wants me, and not her. 3. Ask if I can work from 5-7 (my hours are 5-9) and go to the concert next to the remaining time. It’s not as though this is a leisurely affair, it’s for a grade! I’m stuck and entail ideas. My parents can’t call- they made me sign a bogus, misspelled waiver when I started that “would result in instantaneous termination should my parents speak on my behalf”. So, help me choose or give me option…I need to know what to do! j

Accidential Manager. Is it worth it.?
Hi all, As an individual contributor I have excelled next to a proven track record of accomplishments and results. I am the preverbal ‘go to guy’. As a result of my work I’ve be promoted several times and last February my manager took me aside and asked if I would be interested within ‘mentoring’ other engineers. Sure I said, be glad to help. Next thing I know the VP of Engineering for the Americas announces to the world that I will be managing a new group specifically focused in engineering applications. 10 months on I’m working 16hr days making up for the work of 7 of the 10 general public in my group that cant do the challenging systematic stuff and also ‘managing’ the group which includes product management, budgeting, performance reviews and adjectives the other administration that goes near the job. If that doesn’t sound discontented enough I didn’t get a incline… So in my own performance review just this minute I asked my manager why did he think I’d ever want to do this post? He said it was good for the company and I should appreciate the extra responsibility and visibility that the role provides. Truth is I’m feed up with the endless supervision whilst watching projects go down the pan as I dont enjoy the time and the company does not have talented front dash people to pull bad the projects. I鈥檓 caught doing both jobs wondering if I鈥檓 the one who will be fired if the projects fail as I鈥檓 responsible for everything. All the while I鈥檓 thinking that my precise skills are what made me employable and gave me job warranty. Another year as a manager and I鈥檒l lose those skills. Without knowing the value of my different management skills and seeing the technical door close aft me I鈥檓 concerned about my prospects for the future. So I’d similar to a vote. Should I: a. Embrace my managers role, learn inhabitants skills and enjoy the new challenge. As a manager my visibility will be higher and from this influential position I can steer the company, both surrounded by project management and hiring new citizens into the group. Over time I will delegate more and have time for my own professional nouns too. b. Tell my manager I’d like my infirm job back. Continue excelling contained by my field, enjoy the personal challenge and continue to solve the problems at the coal face. Job happiness and security for the same money.

He is rubbish at his job but I havent be able to sack him, as he is holding this over me, threatening to make up more stuff and show the pics if he is sack. The other night I tried to grab the phone out his pocket as I looked-for to delete the photos. In the struggle his pocket ripped. I didnt manage to get the phone. I go home and called the police. They agreed with me and he be arrested for blackmail and harassment. The police made him delete the pictures, but CPS decided not to charge him. He mentioned at the time to the police he have spoken to our boss. The next morning i received an email from my boss saying I hold been suspended from work for the next few days and hold to attend a meeting about the following allegations: phyiscal knock about, damage to personal clothing and verbal rough up. Is this a sackable offence. Do you think they will lift into account what he has be doing to me, if I tell them the whole story? Do you muse I should deny it. Nobody else saw or heard it?
