What law enforcement type jobs do not have color vision requirements?
I tried to apply for the LAPD, but at the end of the application process it was determined that my color vision deficiency was too severe. What other options (if any) are available to someone with my “handicap”? Customs and Border Patrol? Federal Police? I.C.E? U.S. Marshal’s? Homeland Security Police? F.B.I.? C.I.A.? Any specific Sheriff’s or Police Departments? Air Marshal’s? D.E.A.? any ideas or suggestions? Any input would be greatly appreciated… Thanks in advance for any post and/or comments….

Law enforcement can seriously need color visions. I would say your best bet is a security guard in a local area

I encountered the same situation when I applied to LAPD, I tried very hard to contest their findings. My best advice is save your money !!! don’t try to appeal – it takes too long ( 1 year ) for their civil service commission board to say, the state (P.O.S.T) sets the standards for color vision you should take it up with them. I was lucky because my wife is an attorney, she was able to make a strong argument that color vision is not the only sense a police officer uses in the field. for example, if a car is blue/green you wouldn’t make a radio call simply describing the color of the car. There’s also make, model, license plate number, TNT windows and so on – that was just one argument of many. she tried very hard to convince the civil service commission and did so. However, the city attorney would not allow them to rule in my favor because it is a set state standard not city set standard. I also had letters from doctors from places such as UCLA’s eye institute stating I’m mildly color blind. Please keep in mind doctors make their own disclaimers ( they don’t want to be sued) by saying they don’t know how the color vision will effect the person on the job. Which allows the city to make the final decision – it turns in to a game of hot potato. My advice is go to College !! or get a Trade!! Oh, watch out for guys who will say the line of bull-shit ,” I have a friend who is on the job he’s color blind”. Then when you start to inquire further that friend who turns out isn’t color blind. If you want to beat the system you have to be friends with the nurse who conducts the vision test when you go to medical. — Good luck- –
